Re: looking for a retreat site
Sun, January 22, 2006 - 8:24 AMNamaste Harshada,
I have been wanting to meet you since hearing about your fundraiser from my very dear friend Kristina (a.k.a. Yogafly!). How did your rescheduled event go? What timing of that transit strike, eh?! Go figure...
If you like, please do email me at heartofkirtan@yahoo.com so that we can connect.
Regarding your search for a retreat centre, Ananda Ashram upstate in Monroe, NY is the perfect candidate! It's just 45 miles north of the GW bridge, lots of very regular buses from Port Authority run daily, there's also a train service from grand Central to Harriman Stn.
www.anandaashram.org
It really is a perfect place to take a group of students. A cosy, charming Ashram deeply rooted in the tradition of Yoga & Vedanta, as well as the study of the Sanskrit language,. The Guru, Shri Brahmananda, was a great proponent of using the Arts (including music & dance) a s a means of connecting with the Divine. You can integrate your retreat schedule with the Ashram daily programs as you wish. It's a great arrangement, meals are included & the rates are beyond reasonable. If you email me I'd be happy to send you more info about group rates, etc.
I've been meaning to get more active on tribe.net, but it's been a challenge to find the time! Let's see how I do from now on... I'm still not really quite sure of the lay of the land, but I know I just need to spend a little time navigating to get the hang of it all... it sure is a lot to take in, though!
* *PEACE* *

Re: looking for a retreat site
Mon, February 27, 2006 - 12:13 PMYou might want to check out the St. Ignatious Retreat House in Manhasset, Long Island. It's 30-40 minutes on LIRR from PENN Station; there are cabs at the Manhasset station. Or a very short car ride. I've been to a retreat there held by a LI yoga place (Yoga Anand Ashram Incorporated (631) 691-8475). It's basic, nice, quiet, they have a labryinth and a pool for warmer weather. St Ignatius Retreat House
(516) 621-8300, 251 Searingtown Rd. Manhasset, NY 11030. Shared rooms and baths, buffet style meals, quiet, lots of land.
